\”Patently Absurd\”

March 20, 2008 – 1:07 pm

So Ralston calls the Gube’s meandering claim about budget cuts, or whatever that 4.5% thingy was, made on Nevada Newsmakers:

After gushing over the Beersian idea of population growth plus
inflation as “a great place to start” for budgeting, Gibbons challenged
host Sam Shad when he asked the governor about the point at which
programs might have to be cut.

“Let me correct the assumption that we are cutting things out,” said
the man who has proposed cutting out more than half a billion dollars
worth of things. “We reduced the rate of increase … We’re not going
to be able to do new programs” which, the governor added informatively,
are what cause the increase in the budget.

This is, of course, patently absurd, not to mention false. Most of
the billion-dollar increase that Gibbons signed yes, he signed was not
for new programs but for roll-up costs because of growth. And for him
to tell the public that he is not “cutting things out” must come as
news to school district officials and others who have been asked by him
to … cut things out. (Sun)

And lookee: Gleaner on Pate to Pate about the Gibbonses divorce that has either been annulled or covered-up. Don’t expect the local MSM to tell you which, tho.

UPDATE: talk about "patently absurd," but Gibbons for Veep??? Acck:

Jim Gibbons, the Governor of Nevada. Nevada, like Florida, is
anticipated to be a "battleground state" as the Democrats are looking
to poach this state from the Republicans in this election cycle.
Gibbons might be able to help with that. But he’s not as photogenic as
some of the other choices and Nevada is not worth many electoral
college votes. Like Sanford, no one picked him as the best choice. (NaPP)

And whatever you got to say about Sheldon Adelson, he loves his wars, and they love him right back. Yech, he had to listen to Porter’s boy band, too. (TM) Well, Sheldon won’t be giving as much next year. (RJ)
