Education Director
June 6, 2008 – 2:58 amThe Governor’s Committee on Scholastic Achievement (GCSA) has an immediate opening for an Education Director at its New York City based mentoring program. GCSA is a multi-service organization, which provides social and educational services to those in need in New York City’s public high schools In collaboration with public schools and Fortune 500 corporations throughout New York City, GCSA provides high school students with workplace experience through one-to-one mentoring with volunteer corporate mentors, school-based academic and college preparatory activities, and cultural and social activities.
The mission of GCSA is to help high school students with the resources and skills needed to be academically successful and to expose academically, economically, and socially disadvantaged students to wide range of career and college choices, cultural activities, and professional skills and attitudes.
Principal Responsibilities:
- We are seeking an energetic, creative, and experienced Educator with excellent command of the current educational issues in secondary education. Candidate must be committed to meeting the needs of low-income children and be excited by the diversity of our students. The Education Director, who will supervise all staff, must possess the ability to interact directly, honestly and patiently with staff, corporate partners, and school personnel.
-The Educational Director will have day to day responsibility for the implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum, on going assessment of children and maintenance of student files.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
-Augmenting and implementing an existing developmentally appropriate curriculum for secondary education that includes: educational and career development, self-awareness and social literacy, financial literacy, civic engagement, and leadership development.
-Assessing and screening children utilizing a variety of instruments and analyzing and recording the results as part of the lesson planning process
-Ensure that the day-to-day operations of the department are conducted in accordance with relevant contracts, grants, regulations, laws and budgets.
-Gathering and preparing narrative and statistical data for program reports, foundation information and yearly reports.
-Supervising Liaisons, Coordinators, Consultants, and Volunteers in the classroom
-Attending and participating meaningfully in meetings including Teacher’s Meetings, In Service Trainings, Team Meetings, Parent Teacher Conferences and assigned outside conferences and workshops.
-Coordinating and assisting in conducting trainings for teachers, coordinators, and volunteers, coordinating field trips, coordinating the yearly calendar events and other similar tasks.
