Masonic Brotherhood and Masonic Tyranny

June 6, 2008 – 2:57 am

Last night I sat in lodge with the brethren of Acanthus Lodge No. 632 and had the distinct honor and pleasure of being elected to dual membership in Acanthus lodge. So, now I have the opportunity to share in Masonic pursuits in two very fine lodges in Des Moines, Daylight Lodge No. 660 where I am a Past Master and current chaplain, and Acanthus. It was a good night of Masonic brotherhood. Acanthus always serves a nice meal and has good fellowship. I’ve gotten to know many of the Acanthus members as a member of Ascalon Chapter RAM No. 139 which meets in the same building.

Further reading online this morning made me all the more glad that I am a Mason in Iowa and not in the state of West Virginia!

It has already been reported on Brother Chris Hodapp’s blog and on the Burning Taper that the unbelievable crisis of leadership continues to occur in West Virginia Masonry. You can click on the link on the right to the Freemasonry for Dummies blog by Brother Hodapp for more information. But, the position the current Grand Master is placing brethren in West Virginia in is frightening! Free speech and freedom of expression as Masons is in serious peril if something does not change.

I agree with the author of the Burning Taper whole heartedly that all Masons of good will should speak out against this kind of behavior by Grand Lodge leadership. May calmer hearts and minds prevail! And, my thoughts and well wishes are with my brethren in West Virginia!
