I don\’t watch movies very often

April 12, 2008 – 3:25 am

A few months ago I joined the Doubleday book club in order to get free/cheap books. I was reasonably pleased with my choices, except for a reference book that said, in its chapter on Canada, that our political parties were the Liberals and the Progressive Democrats.

Anyway, I never sign up for things with my real name, which resulted in my getting a phone call this evening asking for “Rainbow Goddess.” The caller was from Columbia House, who either own or are a subsidiary of Doubleday Book Club. She kept calling me “Ms. Goddess.” LOL!

She was trying to get me to join the Columbia House Movie club. Same deal as the books; you get X number of DVDs for free, and then you agree to buy X more at “club prices” in the next X number of years. I believe I got a promo mailing from them when I got my latest catalogue from Doubleday.

I told the caller that I simply don’t go to movies. She said, “Aw, not enough time, huh?” I said no, I am just not interested in most movies. I don’t rent them, either. I have been to only three movies in the last four years, and one of them was to make Monster happy. (It was Casino Royale. Monster is a big James Bond fan; I’m more of a Pierce Brosnan fan than a Bond fan.)

She asked me what movies I am interested in. I said, “Science fiction.” She said, “What, like, you mean horror?” I said no, science fiction. “The last two movies I went to were Serenity and Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” I told her. (Oops, I forgot the Shrek movies.) She’d never heard of either of them. I thanked her for her offer and told her I wasn’t interested in the movie club.

I do own a few movies. I own the Lord of the Rings trilogy, all three Shrek movies, the original Stargate movie, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Now, if they offered TV shows on DVD, I’d seriously considering joining their club. There are lots of TV shows I’d like to have on DVD, but I simply cannot afford to buy them all. I also don’t have anywhere to put the darn things. I have a couple of shelves in my wall unit devoted to DVDs, and they are slowly filling up, mostly with Stargate SG-1 and Doctor Who DVDs. (Granted, they have been filling up over the course of a few years.)

Three hours of homework tonight, and all for one class. When they start assigning homework for the Accounting class, I’m going to have no time to do anything but homework! I won’t have time to watch any DVDs or anything else!
